We educate and advocate to improve soil health on Indiana’s urban and diversified small-scale farms and gardens.

We collaborate with conservation partners and farmers across Indiana to establish local Soil Health Working Groups, which provide soil health education and address the needs of small-scale vegetable growers.

Our regional Urban Soil Health Specialists and working group members train local conservation staff, growers, and the general public through field days, workshops, one-on-one meetings, and site visits, as well as provide technical assistance.

Soil Testing

Our Soil Health Specialists visit your farm, take a soil test, and talk about your current management and conservation practices you can use to improve soil health. We love the opportunity to meet growers where you are.

Technical Assistance

Our Soil Health Specialists provide follow-up site-specific recommendations based on our site visit, your context and goals, and your soil test results.

Education & Outreach

Our Soil Health Specialists are available to be speakers for local events on soil health and conservation practices, make connections for farm sites for field days, provide materials, and sometimes provide financial assistance for event costs.

Local Soil Health Working Groups

Our team is small, and to extend our efforts, we partner with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts and other conservation-minded community organizations. These groups offer soil tests and site visits for backyard and community gardens, as well as market-scale farmers. Groups put on their own educational and outreach events.
